Book Synopsis
Creative Realities: The Search for Meanings brings a unique approach to the difficult study of the creativity of artists through a researcher who is also an artist. Maxine Borowski Junge explores the creative processes of fourteen visual artists and writers through interviews and examination of their work. She accomplished this through a four part alternative realities perspective which also includes a documentation of her own work as an artist. The four case studies establish differences between the creative experience and the interaction with the outside world. Distinctive patterns of relationship are discovered between the artist in the creative mode and his or her personality in the outside world. The patterns noticed, designated ''The Ariadne Effect,'' represents the effect that the specific realities have on the creative process, yet noting that the particular universe does not create creativity.
