Description

Book Synopsis

Many adults cite coaches as the adult they remember most from their schooling experience - and that is not always a result of positive interactions. In education, we know the influence and impact coaches have, but there is little, if anything, done to help our coaches grow in any way outside of Xs and Os. Also, there is almost nothing connecting personality archetypes, and the Enneagram in particular, to education. As avid users of Enneagram in our Executive Coaching roles we have seen the profound impact it can have on positively impacting leadership, relationships, and the ability to elicit peak performance. In attempt to address both issues, Cracking the Coaching Code was created. The book is designed to help everybody increase their self-awareness and provide concrete and tangible tools to better support their athletes and to create more productive relationships.

Trade Review

Thank you for putting together an awesome coaching resource. After being in this game for over 25 years at various levels, including the last 23 at the College level, this book lays out all the different personality types you will run into. Mental health and mental training are huge factors in our sport and this lays out different strategies on how to deal with situations that cause mental anguish among athletes, coaches, administrators, and parents. This is definitely a book all new coaches and us old coaches should use to help gain an advantage and help our players and programs.

Dr.’s Caposey and Wills have really challenged the way I approach coaching athletes and coaching other coaches through their teachings in this book. For any coaches out there looking for an edge, Cracking the Coaching Code should be a must-have on your bookshelf.

Coaches have always known the importance of trying to figure out what makes their players tick, but reading this book and using the Enneagram to study the different personality traits provides coaches new strategies and insights to get the best out of each individual and build a strong team. Not only did the book educate me on the nine personality types, but it also helped me discover things about my own self that will help me become a better coach and communicator. Whether you're just getting into coaching or are a veteran, reading this book will equip you with vital information to help you be the "player's coach" that all players love to have.

Dr. Caposey and Dr. Wills have put together a must read for coaches across all sports at all levels. Their deep dive into self-awareness for coaches and discovering the varied personalities of individual team members will help create successful coaches in all arenas. Successful coaching is discovering and managing the personalities of team members, and they have established the blueprint for that type of success.

As recruiting coordinator for a junior-college baseball team, I wanted a test to make sure potential recruits had the traits our staff felt made us most successful. It turns out we should have been meeting the kids where they were and Cracking the Coaching Code would have allowed us to do just that! A tremendous learning and teaching tool!
