Book Synopsis
A gothic tale following one woman’s fight to keep her baby safe when ancestral shadow figures emerge with a cryptic message.

When Sofia’s husband Emil leaves for a mandatory work trip, she is left alone with her unnamed, three-week old baby. Sofia thought mothering would come naturally to her, but her freshly post-partum reality is a warped version of the idyllic family life she sees advertised on Instagram. Sofia has worked hard to neatly tuck her past away, and Emil's family wealth has landed them in a gorgeous home in a posh suburb. Yet, Sofia can't quite square how mothering has fallen into only her lap. Nobody seems willing or able to help her: not Emil, and definitely not Edwina, the mother Sofia cut off long ago.

With Emil gone, Sofia gradually falls into sleep deprived paranoia. She sees a shadow figure following her around the house, a figure she can just see out the corner of her eye. The darkness in her home appears to spread, snuffing out any light.

Then Sofia learns of an insidious ancestral haunting that has plagued the eldest daughters of the eldest daughters in her family for generations. Sofia is left questioning whether she needs sleep, or if she must be the one to face history head on.
