Book Synopsis
The thirteen chapters collected in this book reflect on the degrees of assimilation, the exchanges and the particularities present in Spanish art, topics that were the focus of Juan Carlos Ruiz Souza's research. The art works analysed by the authors document the intense cultural and artistic relations established across borders, both within the Iberian Peninsula and throughout the Mediterranean basin. During the centuries of the existence of al-Andalus, exchanges and trips back and forth, east-west and south-north, were constant. The reconstruction of that cultural landscape, often forgotten or excluded, breaking down historiographical borders and outdated paradigms of exclusion, are essential exercises to understand our unique and rich heritage, as well as to generate inclusive stories and respect for diversity in today's society. These are the main objectives of the R&D Project ?Al-Andalus, art, science and contexts in an open Mediterranean. From the West to Egypt and Syria" (RTI2018
