Mrs. Tortoise and Birdie are very close friends. One morning, Mrs. Tortoise sees her reflection in the pond and realizes her shell is worn out, and she feels old and sad. Then Birdie comes along with an idea to cheer her up.

Trade Review
“Merlán spins a sweet, simple tale of supportive friendship (with a nice lesson about apologizing tucked neatly into the end), brought to full life through Wimmer’s whimsical artwork.” -Becca Worthington, Booklist
The lush watercolor illustrations were my favorite part of this book- there are lots of small, strange details to look at, and the rich colors and whimsical style made me happy. The story is odd but cute, and Mrs. Tortoise makes a heartfelt apology for being mean to Birdie- it’s nice when children see characters trying to make things right.---Oregon Coast Youth Book Preview
You really need to get your hands on this and checkout Wimmer’s whimsical illustrations! I had fun pouring over each to page to see what delightful surprises she included. - Kiss the Book
"Watercolor art splashed across each page spread creates beautiful artwork that readers will gravitate to." -Mom Read It
