The star of 24, Kiefer Sutherland, is best knwon for his role as special field agent Jack Bauer. 24 was originally intended to be a one-time mini-series in which Jack Bauer has to stop a presidential candidate from being assassinated as well as rescue his wife and daughter, who are being held hostage. The first season was such a hit that there were second, third and fourth seasons made. A fifth season began in the US in January 2006. The series has also spun off a video game, released in February 2006 and a graphic novel. 24 has received critical and popular acclaim, and has become a true "water cooler" show, in the first season Kiefer Sutherland won a Golden Globe for his performances; show creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran won an Emmy award.
