A consistent contrast\u003cbr\u003e was found between mothers' explicit endorsement\u003cbr\u003e of gender stereotypes and implicit emphasis on gender.\u003cbr\u003e Although mothers rarely expressed gender stereotypes\u003cbr\u003e directly, they emphasized gender concepts indirectly, by\u003cbr\u003e referring to gender categories, providing gender labels,\u003cbr\u003e contrasting males and females, and giving approval to\u003cbr\u003e their children's stereotyped statements.
