Some of the fortresses that were built here in the medieval centuries have disappeared; others preserve a minimum part of their original materiality. The bibliographical footprint of all of them is very scarce. Only Niebla Castle, and very recently, has been the subject of historical and archaeological research. Individually, they are very elusive fortresses, given the scarcity of documentary references available.
