He undertook his own education at the British Museum and consequently became keenly interested in cultural subjects. Thus his prolific output included music, art and theatre reviews, which were collected into several volumes such as \u003ci\u003eMusic in London 18901894\u003c\/i\u003e (3 vols, 1931); \u003ci\u003ePen Portraits and Reviews\u003c\/i\u003e (1931); and \u003ci\u003eOur Theatres in the Nineties\u003c\/i\u003e (3 vols, 1931).
