Organized by body site, concise clinical chapters provide easy access to critical information. Important "pearls" of epidemiology, anatomy, pathology, and clinical presentation are highlighted. The key elements of the work-up are listed, followed by staging and/or risk classification systems. Treatment recommendations are discussed based on stage, histology, and/or risk classification. Brief summaries of key trials and studies provide the rationale for the recommendations. Practical guidelines for radiation techniques are described and complications and follow-up guidelines are outlined. The Third Edition incorporates new key studies and trials to reflect current radiation oncology practice; includes the most recent staging systems; and features new color illustrations and anatomic atlases to aid in treatment planning. This book represents a tremendous amount of work, a study of over 1,000 individuals, with from two to twenty films each, in an effort to find an acceptable series of standards. . . . From the work of child development centers throughout the country, it has become established that the process of skeletal development is the most significant available measure of physical maturation. It is closely related to the reproductive and total somatic growth and is of great clinical value, especially when considered in relation to chronological age. . . . The excellence of the volume lies in the clarity of its directions and in the choice of standards, many of which are taken from a successive series on the same children. There is thus very little difficulty in matching an unknown x-ray to its correct age peer."—California Medicine
" . . . Radiotherapy has remained one of the most important anticancer approaches for clinical management of a variety of human tumours, as at least half of all oncological patients receive this therapy at some stages of their disease. With the hope to attain greater anticancer response, the interest in using natural plant-derived products as complementary treatments to conventional radiotherapy has substantially increased in the recent years. However, the interactions between phytochemicals and ionizing radiation are not always known and can be often unpredictable. Therefore, in this book, the current findings about the combined treatments of malignant cells with radiation and flavonoids, the largest group of human dietary plant polyphenols, are described. These data show that under carefully chosen dosage-schedule regimens, certain flavonoids or their natural mixtures can behave as potent radiosensitizers, augmenting radiotherapeutic efficacy in different preclinical cancer models. Such radio-sensitising action of flavonoids can be achieved through modulation of the redox status and suppression of several cellular survival pathways activated by radiotherapy, ultimately leading to the death of malignant cells. As flavonoids can concurrently protect normal healthy cells from irradiation-induced injury and thereby minimize toxic adverse reactions, use of these plant-derived agents as complementary approach to radiotherapy might open new avenues for enhancement of clinical outcome. Therefore, combining conventional anticancer modalities with conscious intake of flavonoid supplements as adjuvant agents might be an important future strategy to boost the therapeutic success in the treatment of various human malignancies.

Table of Contents
Preface; Introduction; The Role of Radiotherapy in Cancer Treatment: Current Opportunities and Challenges; Radiotherapy-Induced Cellular Responses: Major Mechanisms Behind Radioresistance; Plant Flavonoids as Potential Dietary Radiosensitizers; Modulation of Radiotherapeutic Efficacy by Dietary Flavonoids; Conclusions and Further Challenges; References; About the Author; Index.
Book Synopsis
The Radiology of AIDS is aimed at candidates for postgraduate examinations in all specialities and especially those doctors with some training in HIV disease who need to assess their knowledge of the subject.
